Marta Cypel
Marta Cypel (b. 1990, Milan, Italy) is a ceramic artist based in Lisbon. With a deep connection to nature and a passion for the transformative processes found in geology, Cypel explores themes of fragility, resilience, and the passage of time through her ceramics. Her work is rooted in both the natural world and ancient ceramic traditions, creating a fusion of raw, earthy beauty with contemporary elegance.
Cypel’s creations are sculptural in form, often inspired by organic shapes and natural textures. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in her studio, signed with her initials MCO, showcasing her commitment to the authenticity of handcrafting. The process is a journey of experimentation, where the artist blends personal glazes and patinas, continuously evolving her artistic language to balance the primitive and the contemporary.
At the heart of Cypel’s practice is a contemplation of life’s impermanence. Her pieces evoke a quiet power, reflecting the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability found in nature. Through her work, Cypel invites the viewer to consider the transformative forces at play within both the earth and ourselves.
Having exhibited internationally, Marta Cypel’s works continue to inspire with their evocative beauty and refined simplicity. Her ceramics not only capture the rawness of the earth but also convey a profound connection to the human experience, making her a distinctive voice in contemporary ceramic art.
