Grège Gallery Presents: Silvia De Marchi's Solo Exhibition in Belgium
From January 25th, 2025, La Grège Gallery will host the first Belgian solo exhibition of Italian artist Silvia De Marchi, an event that highlights her unique artistic vision and deep exploration of materiality. Located in the heart of Brussels, this exhibition invites visitors to engage with a body of work that transcends visual representation to explore physical and tactile experiences.
Born in 1967 in Melzo, Italy, Silvia De Marchi is a painter whose practice delicately balances fragility and resilience. Her works explore universal themes such as presence and absence, visibility and invisibility, and the interplay of fullness and emptiness.
De Marchi’s creative process begins with large sheets of Fabriano paper, which she paints using a water-based mixture of inks, iron powder, sand, silver dust, and at times, plaster or natural debris. These monochromatic surfaces, rich in textures and imperfections, are then exposed to natural elements like wind, rain, and sunlight, imbuing them with a sense of impermanence and transformation. The works are subsequently torn, cut, and reassembled into layered compositions, embodying a dialogue between construction and deconstruction.
Drawing inspiration from Buddhist philosophy, Silvia De Marchi celebrates imperfection and the transient beauty of time, offering viewers a meditative and sensorial experience.
The exhibition will run from January 25th, 2025, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 25th, from 2 PM to 7 PM.
Join us at Rue Saint-Jean Népomucène, 20, 1000, Brussels, and immerse yourself in the poetic and tactile universe of Silvia De Marchi. For further information, visit the Grège Gallery website.
